Holi Madhuri Leela
Ya kare ne, kare karataba kare
Sunu gori hori khelana misa, haya! karora juluma dhare
Malata gulala gala kahi ‘pyari’! Mohum kaha ‘tu kaha pyare’
Barabasa nainana naina milavata, puni taki-taki sainana mare
Kahata lajata bata aurana sakhi, karata na ka, re daiya re
Kaha ‘Kripalu’ tu to abala sakhi! ya te vidhi, hari, hara hare
A Gopi narrating to her friend about Shyamsundar’s black deeds
A Gopi of Braj complains to her best friend about Shyamsundar, “O sakhi! Listen to what I have to say. This cowherd Kanhaiya – He is not only black in complexion, he also engages in black (improper) deeds.” The other Gopi feigns ignorance and prods her to tell her more. The Gopi complains that on the pretext of playing Holi, Shyamsundar engages in improper actions. He put gulal (red colour) on my cheek and put his face near my ears and whispered, “My darling.” Her friend laughs and finds nothing wrong in this. It is common for people to address one and all, father, mother, daughter, sister, etc. as their loved one. It is not a big deal, she says.
But the Gopi goes on, “Not only did he do that, he also asked me to call him ‘Beloved.’ He then makes various improper gestures that I feel ashamed to talk about. On top of that, he bent down and made direct eye contact with me. He then had the audacity to wink at me. In brief, there is nothing which He does not do.” But her friend finds that too not objectionable as someone can be suffering from an eye ailment, and maybe doing this unknowingly and not on purpose. It is not fair to hold this against him. The Gopi tries her best to convince her friend of Syamsundar’s incongruous behaviour, but to no avail.
The Divine poet, Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji steps in and humorously says to the Gopi, “A woman is considered to be abala (devoid of strength) in the world and in the Vedas, hence it is not surprising that you have been defeated by Shyamsundar for even the great powers like Brahma, Vishnu and Shankar have been defeated by him. Consider it as your great fortune that He has graced you with Prem (Divine love) today and liberated you from this material world. You will forever now reside in Golok with your true Beloved. You are the most fortunate one.
