Bhaiya Dooj Celebrations by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat

(Speech given by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj on the occasion of Bhaiya Dooj)

Mere bhi hai bhaiya, Krishna Kanhaiya

“I also have a brother,  and his name is Krishn Kanhaiya,

Dauji ke bhaiya, Krishn Kanhaiya

He is Balram’s brother, Krishn Kanhaiya

In the world, we have many relationships – with mothers, fathers, daughters, wives, etc. and we naturally yearn for these connections. However, even when one of these relationships is absent in our life, it can lead to a feeling of deep inner sorrow.

For example, one might reflect,  “My father passed away when we were young, so we never had the opportunity to experience that joy;”  “Our mother left us early;” or  “We have no sons or daughters.”  When there are no relatives to turn to, this feeling of loss can be overwhelming. Many people even pretend to be related to someone or other, referring to each other as siblings in faith.

Today, we are celebrating the cherished bond between brothers and sisters. The love between brothers and sisters has always existed, but in the spiritual realm, God tells us to perceive Him only as our every relation. The Vedas and the Gita convey this same message: “You are my everything to me.”

You may recall from the Ramayana that Lakshman once said, “Lord Ram is my brother, my friend, and my father.” In this world, expressing such sentiments can be seen as sinful. If someone calls their father a ‘son’ or or a brother his ‘father,’  people will think they are crazy. It’s not normal to call a son  “husband” in this world.

Yet, in the realm of God, these definitions can shift. You can perceive God in various forms—one moment as a father, the next as a son, and then as a husband. In that divine space, there is no sin. The only condition is to recognize God as your everything and to refrain from seeking relationships in the material world.

This relationship with God is eternal, unlike earthly relationships, which inevitably end. Fathers will pass away, mothers will leave, and sons and daughters will depart; even this physical body is impermanent. Who can claim that they will always remain together?

However, in God’s realm, everything exists. That is why we should consider only God as our true brother today.
